Ben Barber Career Tech Academy, Mansfield, TX
Ben Barber is a wall-to-wall high school providing an expanded state-of-the-art site for Career Tech programs in the Mansfield Unified School District. Under the leadership of Principal Jerri McNair, the extensive Voc-Tec curriculum is organized around five pathways with a strong emphasis on integration and the connection between career frameworks and the academic disciplines.
As a result, teachers collaborate and coordinate more effectively and students experience the benefits of a SLC design through more relevant, personalized learning. The successful formation two new YOP teams – an AOF and AOHT program – is result of this new orientation. Organized under the pathways for Business & Management and Human and Social Services respectively, the AOF and AOHT programs adhere to the rigorous enrollment and curricular requirements laid out in the NAF Academy model.
Workshop participants from Ben Barber Career Tech took part in the YOP workshop in mid-April and by the end of the school year had completed their own video workshop that included all five of the pathway programs on campus.
