NAF YOP Workshop 2006: Miami-Dade County, Miami, Florida

Miami-Dade County schools are focused on the creation of SLCs and the implementation of wall–to–wall Academy programs for high school students. Key features of this SLC program include: multi-year groups for ninth- through twelfth-grade students, alternative scheduling, academic teaming, project-based education that includes mentoring, job-shadowing, service learning and capstone projects, career development and individualized career and education plans for students.

Workshop teams from Booker T. Washington and North Miami Beach SHS took part in the YOP workshop, creating a recruitment video for their programs. Booker T. Washington, a wall-to-wall school, created a project on behalf of their four Academies: Entrepreneurship & Finance, Foreign Languages & Humanies, Engineering & Applied Technology, and Health, Wellness and Social Justice. North Miami Beach used the workshop to create a communications video that will help to introduce a new pathway program: the Education Academy, a dedicated SLC created in partnership with Nova Southeastern University.
