Day 3:
On Day 3, I checked in with each group to see how their flyers were progressing. Then we really went over assessment and reviewed ways to assess professional projects, and then also how we can assess our own projects as well. I made sure that they knew what a rubric was, and showed them some different examples. They watched a video clip from Day 1 and graded it using a sample rubric I provided, working with their partner. As a class, we discussed what would need to be changed in the video clip so that it would get a higher grade. This led us to discuss the rubric that we’d develop to grade their own work, using Student Resource 14.8: PC Proposal Project, Part 6: Defining Project Standards.
Some of the teaching strategies that I used in the class include “Think-Pair-Share,” where the students have to take time and work individually. Then they’re paired up with a partner and they share with their partner. After the partners have had a chance to compare notes, we share with the class as a whole.
