Lesson 16: Refining a Video
Day 3:
For the third part of the lesson, I went over the students’ action plans just to make sure that they’d completed them and to help them with any problems they might have or to address any questions or comments they had that they weren’t quite sure how to handle. I talked to them and helped them through that. Then they went ahead and used the action plans to start making the final changes to their projects. They worked in groups, and so each group got on a computer and one person in some cases was working on editing while another one may have been looking at music, but they were working together to make the changes they needed to make.
I brought it back to a bigger group discussion, to help the students reflect on how they felt about the process; what they liked about it, the peer review, whether they thought it was beneficial, how they thought it was beneficial. They also reflected on the action plans, whether they worked for them, to help them prepare for the essay that they were going to write. They did a self-reflection worksheet and they wrote an essay about how the whole process went; what they liked about it; what didn’t work well with their groups; what worked really well with their groups. I wanted to give them a chance to reflect on how this worked for them so they could incorporate that into their essay.
