NAF–Pearson Curriculum Fellows

The NAF–Pearson Curriculum Fellowship program identifies innovative NAF teachers, provides them with advance access to new NAF curriculum, and then modifies and improves the NAF curriculum based on these teachers’ use of the materials in the pilot phase. Because Curriculum Fellows provide the first, and most sustained, feedback about new NAF courses before they are broadly released for network use, the Fellows’ role has proven to be an essential component of the curriculum development process.

Fellows meet twice a year as a professional learning community. During this time NAF’s Curriculum leadership team trains them in the pedagogy, instructional design, and literacy strategies used throughout the curriculum. Fellows also learn the process and procedures for providing feedback on the courses throughout the year.

Teachers who wish to apply to become Curriculum Fellows submit applications during the summer, following the Institute, and are selected in August based on their ability to pilot one of the new courses in the Spring. All applicants are required to have the full support of their Academy Director, Advisory Board, and principal. Because of the hands-on nature of testing the curriculum, only NAF network members who are currently teaching and can commit to teaching the full course in a classroom during the Spring semester are eligible to be Curriculum Fellows.
